Samira 13 Fine Jewelry Photo Shoot

Recently, I had the opportunity to work with designer/sculptor Samira Sizdahkhani of Samira 13 Fine Jewelry. Located in the heart of the Sunset strip in Los Angeles, California, Samira’s pieces are beyond cool. Soft and sweet meets rock and roll. Sophisticated bad girl. No wonder Madonna, Kelly Osbourne, Lea Michele and other celebs are rocking her pieces! I instantly fell in love with her work, and I’m pretty sure you will too.

To learn more about Samira 13 OR if ya wanna grab a few of her pieces for yourself, visit: www.samira13.com

Big shout out goes to Sarah Goff Roiko of The Elizabeth Kill. Thanks for lending me your beautiful self for the photo shoot!

Fashion That Makes a Difference … Bit By Bit

USING FASHION AND DESIGN TO EMPOWER WOMEN TO RISE ABOVE POVERTY.

I found out about 31 Bits on the good old news. (Finally, something positive to report on!) I made a bee line for the computer to see what they were all about and I was excited by what I saw. 31 Bits purchases handmade jewelry from women in Gulu, Uganda, which provides them with an immediate, consistent, and fair income. The profits made from the international market place go towards programs run by 31 Bits that provide the women with numerous development programs, equipping them to develop a career, earn an instant income, and provide a home, food, and education for their families. So, next time you wanna shop, shop with a conscience at 31 Bits. It’s stylish, it’s affordable and most importantly, you’ll be helping empower women on the other side of the globe!

About 31 BitsKallie Dovel, traveled to Uganda in the summer of 2007, getting a first- hand look at life in Northern Uganda. While she was there, she met women making paper beads but who lacked a plan to market and sell them. After spending time in their homes and hearing their stories, Kallie knew there had to be a way to give opportunities to her new friends. She brought a box of jewelry back to the U.S., and spent the next year finishing her degree and dreaming up the concept of a development organization. She brought a few friends on board and her ideas quickly evolved into 31 Bits. The girls traveled back to Uganda in August 2008, and selected six women to begin buying jewelry from on a monthly basis. Since then, we have grown to 99 women; each with a unique story of suffering that has been overcome with joy and liberation.

You Style The Day – Carrie’s Silver Accessories

Today, Carrie from Canada (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to be exact. Say that five times in a row, I dare ya!) is show casing beautiful bracelets and necklaces that she’s hand crafted. Love the initials in the necklace and those bobbles on the bracelet are fantastic. I think I speak for all of us when I say “Where can I pick myself up one of these?!”  Great designs! Thanks for sharing Carrie!

Carrie Says: I’ve been making jewelry for years, but this year I finally found someone to teach me how to solder silver! It’s pretty easy & brings a new dimension to what I can make (in past I used silver wire & just twisted – also fun, but I need to keep learning).

I love working with silver & gemstones & I like the imperfect look (imperfect just like me). It looks handmade & I think it has a little personality (aka mistakes…).

In any case, I love doing it & the results are fun too!

Feeling inspired to share a look of your own? Anyone can participate in the “You Style The Day” category. Email a photo, brief description and tell me which look from my blog you were inspired by! Click here for more info.
